MET hosted the 2018 Maryland Land Conservation Conference on May 17 at the Maritime Conference Center in Linthicum Heights, MD. The annual conference was attended by more than 140 people from 83 organizations across the Chesapeake Bay region. The land conservation conference is the only statewide event of its kind in Maryland and provides an opportunity to unite land trusts, conservancies, governmental organizations, heritage organizations, members of the agricultural community and other partners for a comprehensive discussion about the present and future challenges and opportunities facing the land conservation movement in our region.
Colora, Cecil County, Maryland - For the past two years, Cecil Land Trust (CLT) has explored ways to help improve food systems in Cecil County. Part of food systems is moving local foods from farmers to consumers and diverting food waste from landfills to methane digesters where it can become energy and fertilizer.
 The Board of Public Works today approved a Maryland Department of Natural Resources item that authorizes a $1.7 million grant to the Cecil Land Trust to acquire a 535-acre conservation easement.
Rural Legacy Program funds will be used to protect productive agricultural and forestland along Northeast Creek as part of the Fair Hill Rural Legacy Area.  Bill Kilby and Alisa Webb proudly stand with Governor Larry Hogan and other recipients of the Rural Legacy Grant
